WHAT IS BIODIESEL?

Biodiesel is a variety of ester-based oxygenated fuels made from vegetable oils either used or new. Its a carbon neutral fuel which can be mixed in any ratio with petroleum diesel e.g. B20 is a blend of 20% Biodiesel with 80% petroleum diesel.
When used to fuel a diesel engine the exhaust emissions are non toxic and do not emit PM10 as does petroleum diesel. These are minute particles of carcinogenic material which are inhaled deep into the lungs of the general public. The main contributors to this being buses and trucks in our cities and towns.
Environmentally, Biodiesel is a ‘Green’ fuel. It creates a lot less greenhouse gas emissions than petroleum diesel, it is made using renewable sources and it is safe to handle and transport as it is biodegradable, which means if a spillage occurs it will not harm the environment.
